glock 20 problems

Glock 20 Problems - Blame! The blow was extremely strong and fast. Then again, I was shooting full-frame on 10mm. Debris splashed on my face. "What the hell?" I thought it was dirt or bullets ricocheting from below. But the sting in my hands got to my brain and I looked at my GEN3 GLOCK 20SF to find that the right side of the frame had blown off, the magazine release was gone and my strong hand had moved to another location on the grip.

I immediately cursed (warning: there is some choice language in the movie) and threw the gun down in front of me (with low aim, of course). Since I was shooting from a kneeling position, the snow covered ground was the best place to put it.

Of course, the first step was to count myself. Everything was still together. There was no blood and no open wounds. OMG my hand itched it probably didn't help that they were already so cold for a few hours of shooting outside in snowy conditions. I damn well wish I had worn gloves, at least they would have prevented the splattered carbon soot from staining my skin with pressure: a good straight line down my thumb from the gap between the slide and frame, around the web of my hand, and in various other areas.

What Causes This Glock Malfunction?

However, I'm very glad I had eye protection. I took off my silly sunglasses that I wear in most of my videos and put on some real safety glasses since I put the camera away. Not that sunglasses weren't enough. No damage was done to my face as I only got a little bit of sandblasting from the little stuff. But it could easily have been a very different scenario.

As you may have guessed from the first photo, the right side of the magazine that was trying to reach the low earth orbit took the most damage. It was completely covered by my strong side hand in a firm grip, flush with the bottom of my trigger finger. Almost in the web between your trigger finger and middle finger, really.

As the gun recoils from the very strong recoil and comes out on top of the frame, it seems to move my hand enough for the magazine trigger to hit the first knuckle of my index finger as it comes off the top. The photo above was taken three days later and shows some broken blood vessels and mild bruising. It was pretty but not really that bad and that's the extent of the damage I took.

Inside the slide was a 6.6-inch Lone Wolf threaded barrel and a 21-pound barrel. Recoil Spring I fired hundreds of rounds of 10mm ammo through this setup without a hiccup. As it turned out, I was probably lucky that this barrel, with a better than factory box mount, was on the gun at the time.

Significant gas pressure was clearly shot at the charger. It went through the front of the trail and pulled the magazine almost completely out of the frame, causing it to expand enough to split the overmolded polymer all the way to the base plate. When I removed the magazine from the gun, round number two was located exactly as seen above.

Believe it or not, the framework popped back into place and at that point everything (except the magazine launch) was still working. I was then able to verify that my G20 wouldn't turn on without a battery and removed that from the list of possible causes.

Sure it was dirty, but nothing about the barrel appeared or measured out of spec as far as I could tell. It's currently with Lone Wolf for full review, but I think it survived the ka-boom without a scratch.

So what caused the explosion? We know the gun wouldn't fire without a battery, and thanks to shooting the previous shot, I was able to definitively rule out a muzzle jam. Everything was indicative of a bad bullet.

The ammo in question was from Underwood Ammunition, a brand I know, trust and love. Specifically, this 10mm of his was loaded with the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator solid copper round.

I called Underwood and made my case, concluding that it was almost certainly an ammo problem. Specifically, I'd assume it was either a double charge (too much powder in the case) or a loose bullet that entered the case during feeding, causing a build-up of pressure.

Underwood was very responsive, friendly and helpful. They immediately came to the plate and informed me that they would either replace whatever was damaged or send me a check for the appropriate amount at my discretion. I just had to send them a list of broken items: a full size GLOCK SF frame, a G20 magazine, a pair of Kirkland Signature baby underwear.

They also emailed me a shipping label so I could send the remaining ammo to them for inspection. Underwood took a look and made the following statement about the cause of my G20 kabom:

After receiving the ammunition and testing it, we found that an anomaly in the bullet caused the gun to malfunction.

The issue has been resolved and we have invested in the most advanced inspection equipment available to ensure that no issues like this occur in the future. This equipment uses infrared laser technology to detect any inconsistencies in bullets or projectiles. It can do this with far greater accuracy and precision than any other method we've come across.

We never want anyone to risk property damage or worst of all injury while using our product. Safety and quality are our two most important goals when manufacturing ammunition.

In particular, the diameter of the projectile was undersized. Even if the case had been properly loaded, the bullet would easily have pressed against the case (bullet recoil) as the bullet entered the chamber, creating enough pressure to cause the damage seen above.

Rebuilding For Horsepower

I can only guess that Underwood will be talking to Lehigh (also a brand I know and love that has a reputation for quality, innovative products and even won our Reader's Choice Award last year) about this. But from Underwood they didn't. Change their tune about taking over and sending me a check. As far as they were concerned, the ammunition was their responsibility and they are supposed to fix it. period. This level of customer service is certainly appreciated and they have made the entire process as easy as possible.

As for me, I still trust and will continue to use Underwood ammo. I've shot (and toured) enough times to see serious defects in ammo and kaboms from almost every major brand of ammo out there. This sort of thing is a risk we all take as shooters. I'm thankful that I didn't get hurt, I'm thankful that Underwood handled it well, and I think it's great that they double the inspection team to make sure even shells purchased from reputable manufacturers are measured before loading. become

My top tips: Always wear eye protection, keep a first aid/trauma kit in your shooting bag, guns and ammo are complex systems that can malfunction dangerously, and you may want to consider shooting gloves with Use more frequency.

[UPDATE] Further input from Underwood Ammunition regarding the issue of the recall and expansion of the brief statement provided above:

Glock 43: Everything You Need To Know– Bravo Concealment

In retrospect, I failed to explain that the other rounds that turned out to be too small were not from the same ammo box we sent them, but from the same shipment of rounds we received from the manufacturer. We checked them all and found 4 additional shells on top of the one that caused it to crash. We also went through our racks and ran through every pre-loaded round and found no problems. We are very confident that this issue is isolated and resolved.

However, we put a lot of thought into the recall because we don't want anyone to get hurt. As a result, we will contact all customers who purchased the same lot number as you and offer them the opportunity to trade in their ammo box for a new ammo box.

The Illinois Gun Rights Alliance is fighting to continue the latest challenge to the new gun control law as the matching AG. My friend Duane has loaned me an occasional gun to write about. One of the good things is he has had a used Glock Gen 3 Glock 20 10mm in his case for a while now. Since I had written about a Colt Delta Elite 10mm that another good friend, Marty, had lent me, I asked Duane if he would mind me taking it and shooting it, as well My camera and in my backyard shooting range. I thought more 10mm items,
